P^werFinance welcomes sustainability leader to board

External Reporting Board chair Michele Embling joins fintech start-up

Auckland, New Zealand, 20th December 2021 – Michele Embling has been appointed to the position of non-executive director to New Zealand financial services company, P^werFinance. The appointment signals P^werFinance’s intent to further shake up the financial services sector, using modern technology to co-create innovative financial products to improve housing affordability, sustainability and the prosperity of small to medium Kiwi businesses.

Michele’s previous role included overseeing the establishment and monitoring of New Zealand’s financial reporting framework, and she has been a strong advocate for diverse and inclusive leadership. More recently, she has turned her focus to the challenges presented by climate change and the opportunity for businesses to transform their approach to sustainability.

Currently, Michele is the chair of the External Reporting Board. She also served as the chair of PwC in New Zealand from 2016 to 2020, where she was a partner for 15 years, holding numerous leadership, executive and governance roles across New Zealand and Asia. Michele also holds a board position with Toitū Tahua – the Centre for Sustainable Finance.

Bruce Baillie, Chair of P^werFinance, is excited to have Michele join the team as it continues to develop innovative finance solutions for New Zealand businesses.

“As we emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic, New Zealand’s ongoing challenges around housing affordability, prosperity for small businesses and the transition to a sustainable economy will remain a strong focus. Innovative thinking is required to help navigate these issues, so to have someone with Michele’s experience and acumen join our team is a real coup.

“Michele is a highly impressive individual with a proven track record and her expertise will be of huge benefit to our customers as well as our business,” he said.

P^werfinance continues to focus on developing solutions that are inclusive, innovative and technology-driven to make a difference to the lives of New Zealanders.
